with talks on…

Medical Stabilization
Linda Schack, MD
Medical Director, Torrance Memorial Medical Stabilization Program for Patients with Eating Disorders

This talk will cover specific medical complication of eating disorders and details of hospital treatment to include refeeding syndrome and gastrointestinal issues. Dr. Schack will discuss coordination with treatment centers and outpatient providers and how treatment providers can skillfully collaborate to build trust among the team and with patients as they transition throughout various levels of care.

Thinking Beyond the Symptoms
Norman Kim, PhD
National Director for Program Development, Reasons Eating Disorder Center and Center for Change

When the association between symptoms and a particular disease appear to be particularly salient or common-sensical, we can often begin to equate the sign and that which is signified. In the context of eating disorders, there is often an especially wide gulf separating symptom from whatever might be the presumed core illness. This talk will endeavor to raise some of these questions and discuss how we might approach treatment in a manner that goes beyond symptom reduction.
