This program includes two groups and one supported meal each session as well as additional individual sessions with a therapist, dietitian, and psychiatrist. Our PHP has 5 groups and 2 meal sessions; IOP has 2 groups and 1 meal session per day.

Virtual care can make eating disorder treatment programming more accessible and can provide other benefits to support the recovery process such as being able to stay at home and practice skills in a real-life setting.

Reasons for Growth: Our Philosophy

The Reasons program is based in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and designed upon a foundation of evidence-based approaches and the current best practices in eating disorder treatment. We integrate Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) as well as therapies based in compassion. Our nutrition program is non-diet and we believe all foods fit, helping our patients learn to eat intuitively and without shame.

Patients and families will be provided:

  • Psychiatric Assessment and Medication Management
  • Therapeutic challenges and exposures
  • Nutrition sessions and education
  • Meal planning and supported meals
  • Intensive group, individual, and family therapy to provide understanding and support for adolescents and their families
  • Mindfulness-based experiential therapies
  • Developing a sense of self-compassion and safety
  • Personalized assignments tailored to each adolescent

Who We Treat

We offer personalized and culturally sensitive treatment for adolescents of all genders ages 10-17 with a primary eating disorder diagnosis. Many of our patients may also be struggling with depression, anxiety or OCD. We are able to help with co-occurring diagnoses as well.

This program is open to adolescents who are stepping down from a higher level of care such as inpatient, residential or partial hospitalization or for those who need more support in addition to outpatient therapy. Patients must be medically stable for admission and our admissions team can review all of this information with parents and/or caregivers via phone or a Zoom call.

Families Matter

We view family as a source of strength and support and actively engage them in their loved one’s treatment on a weekly basis believing they play a critical role in their child’s recovery. Our approach is compassion-based and we strongly believe families are not at fault for their child’s eating disorder. We also believe that families are a key part of recovery and healing and your involvement is so important.

A parent and/or caregiver is needed to be available and accessible to their child and to staff during the PHP and IOP programming hours. We also include families in nutrition education and meal support so you can continue to support your child outside of program hours. As a parent and/or caregiver, you will need to plan to attend multi-family groups as well as medication meetings with the psychiatrist on Saturdays. Parent and/or caregiver participation is an important part of our adolescent programming.

Reasons provides intensive family programming, including:

  • Weekly family therapy and multi-family groups
  • Weekly therapeutic family meals and nutritional support
