Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program
The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a structured, intensive four-hour, six-day per week program that can act as a transition from the partial hospitalization program, or for those adolescents who need more than outpatient therapy. Teens in the adolescent intensive outpatient program may be able to attend school while attending this program and receive meal support and therapeutic and educational groups.
We take into account and respond to the whole person while providing eating disorder treatment for teens, treating both symptoms and behaviors as well as what lies deeper. Your life experiences are taken into consideration. Collaboration is essential in restoring and moving toward hope for the future. We explore values, identity and spirituality to help find meaning on your life path and develop skills for a long-lasting recovery.
Our adolescent eating disorder treatment program takes the complexity and nuance of treatment for this age group into account, providing specialized psychological support for co-occurring and underlying emotional issues that complicate and exacerbate the disordered eating.
The groups across our teen eating disorder treatment programs focus on social skill development, peer relationships, identity, development of coping strategies and discovering value-based living. We teach mindfulness and practical ways to calm the body when it is overwhelmed. While treatment components will vary based on the individual, the following elements are common aspects of intensive outpatient programming:
- Individual therapy
- Family therapy and education
- Nutrition therapy and dietary support
- Psychiatric consultation
- Group therapy, including groups such as:
- Group process
- Cognitive-behavioral therapy
- Dialectical behavior therapy
- Psychoeducation and nutrition
- Relapse prevention, response prevention and coping skills
- Interpersonal and communication skills
- Somatic and creative arts therapies (such as yoga, dance, art, creative writing, etc.)
- Discharge and aftercare planning
FAMILIES MATTER TO US
Seeking treatment for your child can be a daunting process. The decision to seek out a treatment program for your child’s eating disorder takes courage to do, for the teenager, for the parents/guardians and for the rest of the family.
Our team at Reasons Eating Disorder Center will approach the treatment process, and our care for your child, with compassion and understanding for both the adolescent and their family members. Family can be a source of strength and support. We look for ways to actively engage close family in treatment on a weekly basis. We also offer a monthly family education day on eating disorders and the process of recovery because we know you play a critical role in recovery.
Our program values families and the importance of the role of loved ones in the recovery process. Parents are treated as partners, provided with education and skills, and treated with respect and care. We are committed to helping families understand the illness and give practical skills on how to provide support for their child.
