Adolescent Partial Hospitalizationuhsinc_remote2020-09-21T16:13:56-07:00

Outpatient Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program

Located in the San Gabriel Valley in Greater Los Angeles, adjacent to our inpatient hospitalization program, the adolescent partial hospitalization program (PHP) at Reasons Eating Disorder Center is focused on integrating what has been learned in inpatient or residential treatment into everyday life. We provide additional support for those who are continuing to struggle but do not require 24-hour care.

The adolescent partial hospitalization program (PHP) is an intensive, structured eight-hour, six-day per week treatment program that occurs from 10:30 am to 6:30 pm, Monday through Saturday. Designed to ensure continued success in eating disorder recovery, partial hospitalization programming supports individual emotional and nutritional goals while also incorporating therapeutic and educational groups to address the particular challenges of implementing changes into daily life.

This program can serve as a transition from inpatient to outpatient treatment, or patients can enter directly into this program from the outpatient setting while living at home.

Eating disorder treatment for teens is complex. We take a multifaceted approach to care that considers the developmental needs of young people and the unique challenges of adolescence. Our holistic approach to teen eating disorder treatment also means that we take into account the co-occurring mental health issues, such as anxiety or depression, that may make eating issues worse.

Group therapy in our outpatient adolescent eating disorder treatment program focuses on social skill development, peer relationships, identity, development of coping strategies, and discovering value-based living. While treatment components will vary based on the individual, the following elements are common aspects of partial hospitalization programming:

  • Individual therapy
  • Family therapy and education
  • Nutrition therapy and dietary support
  • Psychiatric consultation
  • Group therapy, including groups such as:
    • Group process
    • Cognitive-behavioral therapy
    • Dialectical behavior therapy
    • Psychoeducation and nutrition
    • Relapse prevention, response prevention and coping skills
    • Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Somatic and creative arts therapies (such as yoga, dance, art, creative writing, etc.)
  • Discharge and aftercare planning

Not sure whether or not you or your loved one should seek out a treatment center for an eating disorder? Learn more about common eating disorders and the types of eating disorder diagnoses and mental health concerns we address at Reasons.

FAMILIES MATTER TO US

The decision to seek out a treatment program for your child’s eating disorder takes courage to do, for the teenager, for the parents/guardians and for the rest of the family. The team at our adolescent eating disorder treatment facility will approach the treatment process with care and empathy for both the adolescent and their family members.

Parents are treated as partners in recovery and provided with education, skills, and treated with respect and care. We believe families have an essential role to play in the recovery process and are committed to helping you understand the illness and give practical strategies on how to provide support for your child. We include parents and caregivers on a weekly basis and offer a monthly family education day on eating disorders and the process of recovery.
