Intensive Outpatient Program for Adults

The Reasons adult intensive outpatient eating disorder program at BHC Alhambra Hospital focuses on integrating what has been learned in treatment into everyday life. This adult intensive outpatient program (IOP) provides more support than traditional outpatient therapy. It can also be a step down after inpatient treatment or partial hospitalization, providing additional support for those who are continuing to struggle but do not require 24-hour care.

In our eating disorder treatment intensive outpatient program, our staff believes that all people deserve to recover in an environment of structure, support and sanctuary. Whatever your diagnosis, we are here to walk you through your recovery by providing opportunities to practice newly-gained skills and face the challenges of daily living. Your treatment program should focus on restoring your whole person as much as possible, regardless of the level of care. That’s our goal and mission here at Reasons Eating Disorder Center. If you’re seeking an intensive outpatient program in the Greater Los Angeles, California, area our program could be the right option to restore your mind, body and spirit.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION & SERVICES

IOP is a structured, intensive four-hour, six day-per-week program that can act as a transition from the partial hospitalization program, or for those patients who need more than outpatient therapy. Patients can attend school or work while attending this program and will receive both meal support and therapeutic and educational groups. We offer two options for this level of care: 10:30 am to 2:30 pm or 2:30 to 6:30 pm, depending on the individual’s schedule and treatment needs.

TREATMENT COMPONENTS

Our eating disorder treatment center will provide you with a combination of support and structure along with real-life recovery challenges. Patients in this program live at home and commute to the program daily, providing the opportunity to take the skills learned in treatment to daily life. You will both be part of a group and also have a personalized treatment plan that takes your individual needs into account. While treatment components will vary based on the individual, patients can expect some of the following elements throughout their treatment:

  • Individual therapy sessions
  • Family therapy and education
  • Nutrition therapy and dietary support
  • Psychiatric consultation
  • Group therapy, including groups such as:
    • Group process
    • Cognitive-behavioral therapy
    • Dialectical behavior therapy
    • Psychoeducation and nutrition
    • Relapse prevention, response prevention and coping skills
    • Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Somatic and creative arts therapies (such as yoga, dance, art, creative writing, etc.)
  • Discharge and aftercare planning
