Partial Hospitalization Program for Adults

Located in the San Gabriel Valley of Greater Los Angeles, adjacent to our inpatient treatment facility, the Reasons partial hospitalization eating disorder programs at BHC Alhambra Hospital focus on integrating what has been learned in treatment into everyday life, and providing additional support for those who are continuing to struggle but do not require 24-hour care.

Partial hospitalization eating disorder programs provide support and structure to help contain disordered eating behaviors, while also allowing for increased opportunities to practice newly gained skills and face the real challenges that arise in daily living.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION & SERVICES

The adult partial hospitalization program (PHP) is an intensive, structured eight-hour, six-day per week treatment program that occurs from 10:30 am to 6:30 pm, Monday through Saturday. Designed to ensure continued success in eating disorder recovery, partial hospitalization programming supports individual emotional and nutritional goals while also incorporating therapeutic and educational groups to address the particular challenges of implementing changes into daily life.

This program can serve as a transition from inpatient to outpatient treatment, or patients can enter directly into this program from the outpatient setting while living at home, in our independent living house, in local sober-living housing or at a hotel near the hospital.

INDEPENDENT LIVING AT REASONS

In a beautifully furnished, private home, Reasons Independent Living provides adult female-identifying clients a secure and comfortable environment to live in while attending our outpatient treatment programs. Residents of Reasons Independent Living have access to homey living accommodations, meals and snacks in the program, and transportation to and from treatment. Residents also have the opportunity to explore and enjoy the surrounding areas such as the Huntington Library, Westfield Santa Anita Shopping Center, and historic Old Town Pasadena.

TREATMENT COMPONENTS

Our partial hospitalization eating disorder treatment program provides a combination of support and structure along with real-life recovery challenges. While treatment components will vary based on the individual, the following elements are common aspects of partial hospitalization programming:

  • Individual therapy
  • Family therapy and education
  • Nutrition therapy and dietary support
  • Psychiatric consultation
  • Group therapy, including groups such as:
    • Group process
    • Cognitive-behavioral therapy
    • Dialectical behavior therapy
    • Psychoeducation and nutrition
    • Relapse prevention, response prevention and coping skills
    • Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Somatic and creative arts therapies (such as yoga, dance, art, creative writing, etc.)
  • Discharge and aftercare planning

Following treatment in PHP, intensive outpatient programming may be recommended. The Reasons intensive outpatient program (IOP) is a shorter day than the partial program, but still provides more oversight and guidance than traditional outpatient therapy and counseling.
